Child Therapy

Engage and grow through fun and play

Children often face challenges whilst growing up. They too may experience feelings of stress, anxiety, or sadness, however, sometimes children may not have the language to be able to express these emotions. Children frequently communicate through play and this may manifest creatively through art, drawing, storytelling, music, or movement. During assessment sessions, I use play and creative tasks to learn more about the child’s inner experiences and to help them make sense of difficult feelings, thoughts and behaviours. I also incorporate play and creative tasks into the treatment plan in order to help the child recover and grow.

Therapeutic Techniques

Movement

Children communicate emotions through their bodies. I teach children how to recognise and regulate their emotions by moving their body.

CBT + Play

I use play alongside empirically validated CBT techniques so that the child is more engaged in the tasks and goals of the therapy.

Art and Crafts

Children and teenagers are better equipped to regulate their emotions and problem-solve when their right-brain (creative, emotional, expressive) and left-brain (logical, rule-oriented, analytical) are integrated.

Mindfulness

When we practice mindfulness we reinforce and strengthen the neural pathways that underlie focus and self-control. This will positively impact many different areas of the child's life including home life, school, and peer relationships.
